ALSACE - TOWN OF THANN

After the extinction of the county house of Thann, the city passed into the hands of the dukes of the house of Austria. The right to mint coins was granted in 1387 to Thann by the Duke of Austria Albert III. It is probably only from 1448 that the city minted coins in its own name.
