Exemplaire frappé avec un coin de droit un peu usé, mais avec un revers de toute beauté. Très agréable patine, surtout irisée au revers

Cet exemplaire est plus beau que les deux seuls exemplaires que nous avons déjà proposés dans MONNAIES XV et XXV.
Ces monnaies ont la particularité d’avoir une rouelle doublement cerclée au revers ; contrairement aux monnaies DT. 100 et 101, ce n’est pas le cas sur la monnaie proposée ici !
On distingue nettement la ligne d’exergue avec la pseudo-légende dégénérée et décorative. Les monnaies de cette série conservées dans les musées semblent surtout appartenir à la variété 1 au cheval à droite.
Ce type constitue la var. 1 de ce monnayage “nord-armoricain”.
This example is more beautiful than the only two examples we have already offered in COINS XV and XXV. These coins have the particularity of having a double-circled wheel on the reverse; unlike the coins DT. 100 and 101, this is not the case on the coin offered here! The exergue line with the degenerate and decorative pseudo-legend is clearly visible. The coins of this series preserved in museums seem mainly to belong to variety 1 with the horse on the right. This type constitutes var. 1 of this “north-Armorican” coinage

GALLIA - CALETI (Area of Pays de Caux)
(4th - 2nd century BC)
The Calètes, people of Belgium, were sometimes considered Armoricans. They occupied part of the current department of Seine-Maritime with the countries of Caux and Bray. Their neighbors were the Véliocasses, the Bellovaques, of whom they were clients, and the Ambiens. The Calètes would have provided a contingent of ten thousand men to the Belgian coalition under the leadership of the Bellovaques in 57 BC. In 52 BC, they participated with the seven Armorican peoples in sending twenty thousand men for the relief army, destined to deliver Alesia. In 51 BC, they took part in the revolt of the Belgian peoples, led by the Bellovaci. Two of their main oppida were in Bracquemont and Fécamp. In Roman times, their capital was Juliobona, Lillebonne.
