Comme le graveur n’a pas la place de ranger circulairement la légende, il case les lettres où il le peut. Le médaillon devient ainsi un rébus qu’il faut déchiffrer et suivre. For another medallion of this type, see COINS XXI, No. 2821. On this example, the pteryges on the obverse take the form of a lion mask. On the reverse, there is a very interesting variation. As the engraver does not have the space to arrange the legend in a circle, he places the letters where he can. The medallion thus becomes a rebus that must be deciphered and followed.
