Ce denier est frappé sur un flan assez large et irrégulier présentant un petit trou après le M de LELD. Monnaie recouverte d’une patine grise. La croix du revers apparaît légèrement en négatif au droit

CHAMPAGNE - ARCHBISHOPRIC OF MEAUX - ÉTIENNE DE LA CHAPELLE
(1161-1171)
The coinage of the bishops of Meaux is relatively rare. Only the names of five of them are known to us: Gauthier (1045-1102), Bouchard (1120-1134), Renaud (1158-1161), Étienne (1161-1171) and Pierre (1172-1174). This coinage seems to have ceased before the end of the 12th century, although it is still mentioned in the "ordinance of the barons" of 1315.
