Комментарий


Poids léger. Casque richement décoré de deux étoiles entourées de points. Cuirasse cloutée. Magnifique bouclier orné d’un Cavalier (Constantin) galopant à droite, terrassant deux soldats. Semble complètement inédit et non répertorié avec ce type de buste. C’est le second exemplaire signalé après celui de MONNAIES 34, n°937 qui s’est vendu 556€.
Lightweight. Helmet richly decorated with two stars surrounded by dots. Studded breastplate. Magnificent shield decorated with a Cavalier (Constantine) galloping to the right, defeating two soldiers. Appears to be completely new and not recorded with this type of bust. This is the second example reported after that of MONNAIES 34, n°937 which sold for €556

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
