Les carrés de cette médaille ont été réalisés en mai 1849 par Gayrard suite à un traité passé le 19 mai 1849 avec le questeur de l’Assemblée nationale pour la somme de 1800 francs (Launay, p. 216).
Médaille attribuée en 1849 à Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859) philosophe politique, politiste, précurseur de la sociologie et homme politique français. Député de la Manche dès 1839, il est membre de la Commission chargée de la rédaction de la Constitution française de 1848. Il défend les institutions libérales, le bicamérisme (la séparation du Parlement en deux chambres distinctes), la décentralisation ainsi que l'élection du Président de la République au suffrage universel.

The squares of this medal were made in May 1849 by Gayrard following a treaty signed on May 19, 1849 with the Quaestor of the National Assembly for the sum of 1,800 francs (Launay, p. 216). Medal awarded in 1849 to Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859), political philosopher, political scientist, precursor of sociology and French politician. Deputy of Manche from 1839, he was a member of the Commission responsible for drafting the French Constitution of 1848.
