Denier frappé sur un flan large, avec la tête complète. Type de revers complet, avec les légendes dégénérées mais entièrement visibles. Bel exemplaire avec une patine grise, un peu granuleuse, homogène au droit et légèrement tachée au revers

Ce type avec l’oiseau posé sur une croix, parfois confondu avec des monnaies continentales, est assez commun ; il en existe surtout un grand nombre de variantes.

Cet exemplaire, avec une grosse tête en plein champ (mais sans légende autour du grènetis au droit) et un revers stylisé (avec les légendes largement hors flan) semble être une pièce de transition entre les monnaies de la série B et celles de la série J, type 85.

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS

(7th - 8th centuries)

If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
