Claude Santeul était un riche marchand de fer qui épousa Madeleine Bouchet et eut quinze enfants.
Les échevins, au nombre de quatre, joints à trois officiers et au prévôt des marchands, forment le Bureau de Ville, c'est à dire un des principaux rouages de l'administration municipale.

Claude Santeul was a wealthy iron merchant who married Madeleine Bouchet and had fifteen children. The four aldermen, together with three officers and the provost of merchants, formed the Town Council, one of the main cogs of the municipal administration.
