Denier frappé sur un flan large et assez régulier. Monnaie légèrement voilée et concave au revers. Concrétions sombres sur l’avers. Quelques faiblesses de frappe sur les deux faces. Patine sombre. Hauts reliefs assez nets

LANGUEDOC - BISHOPRIC AND TOWN OF CAHORS - ANONYMOUS

(13th century)

Cahors depended on the Count of Toulouse. Feudal coinage began in 1090 with a denarius from Géraud II de Gourdon (1068-1112) and anonymous coinage could begin at the beginning of the 11th century. It was replaced from 1208 by coins in the names of bishops Guillaume de Cardaillac (1208-1234), Raymond de Cornil (1280-1293) and finally Hugues Géraud (1311-1316). Guillaume de Cardaillac conceded the benefit of the Mint in 1212 and 1224, but the town does not seem, according to A. Dieudonné, to have had the right to monetize.
