LEO I

(7/02/457-18/01/474)

Leo I (411-474) was an officer of Dacian origin. He succeeded Marcian in 457, tried to reform the army. Leon fell seriously ill in 473. He then chose his little -son, Leo II, to succeed him. Leo I died the following year and Zeno wasted no time in seizing power by joining forces with his son, Leo II, before ousting him..
