Ce denier est frappé sur un flan large et légèrement irrégulier. Exemplaire présentant de hauts reliefs en dépit d’infimes faiblesses de frappe. Exemplaire recouvert d’une jolie patine grise de médaillier

LOUIS THE GERMAN

(840-876)

Louis, the third son of Louis the Pious and Ermengarde, failed to get along with his brother Lothaire and his half-brother Charles when their father died. At the Treaty of Verdun in 843, he received Germania as a share. On the death of Louis, his inheritance passed for a short time into the hands of Charles II the Bald. For the first time, the fiction of a unitary empire was restored, but only for a few months. Charles died the following year.
