Историческая справка

LOUIS III

(879-882)

Louis III was declared sole heir to the kingdom by his father Louis II le Bègue, who, dying, sent him the crown, the scepter and the royal sword to Autun. This choice triggered many protests, so that the crown was offered to Louis of Saxony, King of Germany. The latter accepts it at first, refuses it before changing his mind. Louis III and his brother Carloman were quickly crowned by the Archbishop of Sens Ansegise. On October 15, 879, Boson had himself crowned king at Arles. Louis committed his troops alongside his brother to overthrow Boson. Burgundy submits and the city of Vienne is besieged. Louis III must go to Neustria to counter the Norman invasions. In 881, he won a victory at Saucourt-en-Vimeu, near Abeville. Louis III died in August 882 in Saint-Denis.
