Casal, à 70 km de Turin, fut le théâtre d'un siège fameux où les Espagnols dirigés par Spinola échouèrent contre le marquis de Thoiras pour les Français. Jean de Toiras se retrouva enfermé dans Casale, assiégé par le général Spinola, et trente mille pièces furent frappées pendant la durée du siège. Pendant celui-ci, un jeune prélat, le futur cardinal de Mazarin, s'interpose entre assiégeants et assiégés afin d'éviter une boucherie. Casale sera dégagée par le général Schomberg.

Jean de Toiras found himself trapped in Casale, besieged by General Spinola, and thirty thousand coins were minted during the siege. LOUIS XIII THE JUST

Louis XIII was born on September 27, 1601. He became king on the assassination of Henri IV on May 14, 1610 and was crowned on October 17, 1610. During his minority, the regency was entrusted to Marie de Médicis. Sully resigned in 1611, Concini became Queen's Counsel and was appointed Marshal of France in 1613. The revolt of the Great forces the Queen to convene the States General in 1614, the last time before the Revolution. The king became an adult at the age of 13 and married Anne of Austria (1601-1666) on November 28, 1615. Richelieu entered the Council in 1616 at the request of Concini who was assassinated on April 24, 1617 by the captain of the guards, Vitry. Louis XIII exiled his mother to Blois then reconciled with her, thanks to Richelieu, in 1619 but Marie revolted again in 1620. In 1621, de Luynes, a friend of Louis XIII, was appointed constable of France. Richelieu is named cardinal in 1622 and enters the Council, he is prime minister in 1624.
