Médaille ancienne non datée, signée PVA. F., accompagnée de son étiquette ronde inscrite “Maurice de NASSAU fils de Guillaume et petit fils de Maurice de SAXE né a DILLEMBEROURG en 1567 mort a LA HAYE 1625. Stathouder de Hollande et de Zélande. Capitaine Général des armées des Provinces Unies. Remporta de brillantes victoires. S’allia avec la France et l’Angleterre.”

Maurice de Nassau, prince d'Orange (en néerlandais Maurits van Nassau) né le 14 novembre 1567, mort le 23 avril 1625, était le fils du prince Guillaume Ier d’Orange-Nassau (1533-1584) et d'Anne de Saxe (1544-1577), fille du prince-électeur Maurice de Saxe (1521-1553). Maurice de Nassau fut souverain prince d'Orange à partir de 1618, à la mort de son demi-frère aîné, Philippe Guillaume, prince d'Orange (1554-1618). Il devint stathouder des Provinces-Unies des Pays-Bas (à l'exception de la province de Frise) de 1585 jusqu'à sa mort en 1625. Il a organisé la rébellion néerlandaise contre l'Espagne en un tout cohérent, a contribué à la réussite de la révolution et a acquis une grande renommée en tant que stratège militaire. Maurice a entrepris de faire revivre et de revoir les doctrines classiques de Végèce et fut pionnier des nouvelles formes européennes d'armement et de drill..

Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange (in Dutch Maurits van Nassau) born on November 14, 1567, died on April 23, 1625, was the son of Prince William I of Orange-Nassau (1533-1584) and Anne of Saxony (1544-1577), daughter of Prince-Elector Maurice of Saxony (1521-1553).
