Si G. Buceti a recensé vingt-et-un exemplaires pour ce type avec des poids répartis entre 1,62 g et 2,73 g, il semble néanmoins beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Историческая справка

SICILY - KEPHALOEDION

(4th - 3rd century BC)

The fortress of Cephaloedium was located on the coast not far from Himera. Certainly from a mixed population, Sicle and Greek, the city entered history when Himilcon, a Carthaginian general, signed a treaty with Himère and Cephaloedium with a view to seizing Syracuse. The Carthaginians were crushed by the forces of Dionysius the Elder. With the help of Agrigento, Cephaloedium remained independent until 307 when Agathokles captured the city. During the First Punic War, Cephaloedium was under Carthaginian influence. The city surrendered in 254 BC. It then became a tributary and was the victim of the prevarications of Verres when he governed Sicily.
