L’Ordre “Pour le mérite” (en Français) est initialement une distinction honorifique prussienne puis allemande créée en 1740. En 1842, une branche des sciences et arts avec trois sections, humanités, sciences naturelles et arts, voit le jour. Le premier chancelier est Alexander von Humbolt. La récompense est abolie suite à l’abdication de l’Empereur d’Alleamgne. Ce n’est qu’en 1952 que la République Fédérale réinstaure l’ordre civil.
The Order of Merit (in French) was originally a Prussian and later German honorary distinction created in 1740. In 1842, a branch of sciences and arts with three sections, humanities, natural sciences and arts, was created. The first chancellor was Alexander von Humbolt. The award was abolished following the abdication of the German Emperor. It was not until 1952 that the Federal Republic reinstated the civil order.
