Exemplaire sur un grand flan quadrangulaire, irrégulier, légèrement fendu, éclaté par endroits, néanmoins bien centré. Usure importante, mais parfaitement identifiable et lisible

Poids très léger. Or pâle (électrum). Flan bombé (scyphate). Variété très intéressante avec le K et le M, surmonté d’un étoile à six rais. H. Berk signale que ce type doit être rendu à Andronicus II et Andronicus III Paléologue entre 1325, date à laquelle il fut associé au pouvoir par son grand-père et 1334, date de la disparition du monnayage. Le dit grand-père est décédé deux ans plus tôt, mais continue à être associé au monnayage.
Very light weight. Pale gold (electrum). Domed flan (scyphate). Very interesting variety with the K and the M, surmounted by a six-pointed star. H. Berk reports that this type must be given to Andronicus II and Andronicus III Palaiologos between 1325, the date on which he was associated with power by his grandfather, and 1334, the date of the disappearance of the coinage. The said grandfather died two years earlier, but continues to be associated with the coinage

ANDRONIKOS II and ANDRONIKOS III PALAIOLOGOS

(1325-1334)

Michael VIII, the father of Andronicus, had re-established the Byzantine Empire in 1261 after 57 years of Latin occupation. Andronicus II reigned from 1282 to 1328. His son Michael IX died before him. His grandson, Andronicus III, succeeded him. Andronicus was forced to abdicate on May 24, 1328. Andronicus II died on February 13, 1332. Andronicus III did not survive him long, he died on June 15, 1341.
