This interesting token commemorates the coronation of William III of Orange-Nassau, a relative of Henry IV through his grandmother Henrietta Maria of France, and Mary II, eldest daughter of James II Stuart, King of England (1685-1688). This event took place on April 11, 1689, and was presided over by Henry Compton, Bishop of London. This token may also have been used as coin.

Историческая справка

ENGLAND - WILLIAM III

(14/11/1650-8/03/1702)

William III (1650-1702), Prince of Orange (1650-1702), Stadtholder of Holland (1672-1702), King of England (1689-1702), was the son of William II of Orange-Nassau and Marie-Henriette Stuart (daughter of Charles I of England and Henriette-Marie of France). He married his cousin Mary II Stuart (1662-1694), daughter of James II of England and Anne Hyde. When the revolution of 1688 drives out his father-in-law and uncle, William is called upon to share the throne of Great Britain with his wife. After the latter's death, he reigned alone from 1694 to 1702. After his death, his sister-in-law Anne (1665-1714), second daughter of Jacques, succeeded him..
