Denier très intéressant avec un avers complet mais un revers légèrement décentré. Patine de collection ancienne

Ce denier correspond au Belfort 5671 ; il ne se distingue du B. 5672 que par les deux petits segments qui repartent vers le haut du “dôme”.

Cette série est reprise par P. Schiesser dans son récent ouvrage sur le monnayage mérovingiens en argent, RT Sena n° 7, n° 49-51bis. Ce dernier remet en question l’attribution historique à Angers (cf. Monetae 1 pl. 7, p. 70) et met en valeur une “continuité visuelle” avec les deniers de Leugariaco..
This denarius corresponds to Belfort 5671; it is only distinguished from B. 5672 by the two small segments which extend back towards the top of the “dome”. This series is taken up by P. Schiesser in his recent work on Merovingian silver coinage, RT Sena n° 7, n° 49-51bis. The latter calls into question the historical attribution to Angers (cf. Monetae 1 pl. 7, p. 70) and highlights a “visual continuity” with the denarii of Leugariaco.
