La montagne d'Untersberg est entourée de nombreux mythes et légendes dont celle de Charlemagne. Celui-ci serait endormi à l’intérieur de l'Untersberg en attente de sa résurrection et gardés par des nains appelés "Untersberger Mandln" (les petits hommes de l’Untersberg). La légende dit que celui-ci se réveille tous les cent ans et se rendort dès qu’il aperçoit les corbeaux survolant la montagne.
Une autre version de la légende raconte que Charlemagne attend assis devant une table. Sa barbe ferait maintenant au moins deux tours de la table. Dès que la barbe sera suffisamment longue pour entourer la table une troisième fois, l’Empereur se réveillera et le monde finira

The Untersberg mountain is surrounded by many myths and legends, including that of Charlemagne. He is said to be asleep inside the Untersberg, awaiting his resurrection and guarded by dwarves called \\\"Untersberger Mandln\\\" (the little men of the Untersberg). Legend has it that he wakes up every hundred years and goes back to sleep as soon as he sees the crows flying over the mountain. Another version of the legend says that Charlemagne waits sitting at a table. His beard would now wrap around the table at least twice. As soon as the beard is long enough to wrap around the table a third time, the Emperor will wake up and the world will end.
