Avant-dernière pièce (sur six) de la série “Rome sur le Danube”.
L’empereur chrétien Gratien, représenté de profil sur l'avers de la pièce, visita Lauriacum en l'an 378.
Cette pièce commémore à la fois le souvenir de cette garnison romaine stratégique, capitale de la province romaine de Norique, et lieu du martyre de Saint-Florian de Lorch. Commandant de l'armée impériale de Bavière et responsable des brigades de pompiers, il refusa d'offrir un sacrifice à une divinité romaine. Il fut torturé et jeté dans la rivère Enns.

Proof coin presented in its case with a numbered certificate. Penultimate coin (of six) in the “Rome on the Danube” series. The Christian Emperor Gratian, depicted in profile on the obverse of the coin, visited Lauriacum in 378. This coin commemorates both the memory of this strategic Roman garrison, capital of the Roman province of Noricum, and site of the martyrdom of Saint Florian of Lorch. Commander of the Imperial Bavarian army and head of the fire brigades, he refused to offer a sacrifice to a Roman deity. He was tortured and thrown into the River Enns.
