Il faut noter que notre exemplaire, comme celui illustré par Corre, est rond alors que celui décrit par Feuardent est octogonal. Il y eut probablement deux émissions, l’octogone étant la première le coin étant prévu pour un flan octogone.
Si l’on en juge par la généalogie publiée sur wikipedia pour la famille Potier à http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novion notre personnage est Léon Potier, duc de Gesvres (1620-1704), premier gentilhomme de la chambre, gouverneur de Paris. Fils de René Potier, duc de Gesvres et de Marguerite de Piney-Luxembourg. Époux de Marie-Angélique de Fontenay-Mareuil (1632-1702), puis de Marie-Renée de Rommilley (-1742). En effet, au style, le jeton est du tout début du XVIIIe siècle.
Il se trouve aussi un Léon Potier de Gesvres (15 août 1656 à Paris, 12 novembre 1744 à Paris) qui fut camérier du pape Innocent XI. En 1694, il fut nommé archevêque de Bourges, mais il ne résida jamais dans cette ville. Il devint cardinal en 1719.
