En 1878, la Bulgarie devient une principauté. Le col de Shipka fut l’objet de quatre batailles opposants les ottomans aux forces russo-bulgares en 1877 et 1878. Ces derniers réussirent à prendre la passe et à défaire les turcs. C’est un des symboles de l’indépendance bulgare..
In 1878, Bulgaria became a principality. The Shipka Pass was the site of four battles between the Ottomans and Russo-Bulgarian forces in 1877 and 1878. The latter succeeded in capturing the pass and defeating the Turks. It is one of the symbols of Bulgarian independence.
