Quintus Caecilius Metellus is the son of Quintus Caecilius Numidicus. He began his career in Africa during the war against Jugurtha with Marius. Proconsul in Spain between 79 and 72 BC, he was beaten by Sertorius in 79, then in 76 BC when he shared command with Pompey. Sertorius is finally assassinated in 72 BC He shares the triumph in 71 BC with Pompey.
