Историческая справка

ITALIAN CAMPAIGN

(1796-1797)

Bonaparte is appointed General-in-Chief of the Army of Italy. The campaign began in March 1796. Bonaparte won the battles of Montenotte on April 11, then of Mondovi on April 22, which opened the doors of Piedmont and Turin to him. The crossing of the Lodi bridge on May 10 enabled the capture of Milan four days later. By the Treaty of Paris, the King of Sardinia ceded Savoy, Nice and Tende to France on May 15. On August 5, the French won the victory of Castiglione and occupied Verona. Victories at Rovedero and Bassano on September 4 and 8 forced the Austrians to shut themselves up in Mantua. On November 15, Bonaparte won the victory at Arcole, then at Rivoli on January 15, 1797. Mantua surrendered on February 2. General Victor captures Ancona on February 9. The Treaty of Tolentino, on February 19, put an end to the war between the French and Pope Pius VI. Bernadotte captures Trieste on March 24. On April 15, 1797, an armistice was signed in Loeben at the gates of Vienna. General Augereau enters Venice on May 16. The final treaty is signed in Campoformio on October 18, 1797.
