In 1226, Zabel (Isabelle) marries Héthoum Ier, and thus opens a long reign which will last until 1270. The reign of Hethum I is distinguished by three main chronological parts. The first where Hethum I and Zabel govern together, the period where Armenia is under the domination of the Sultan of Konieh, and finally, where Hethum I governs alone until his death (1244-1270).
