Georges IV (09/12/1762-06/25/1830) is the eldest son of Georges III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg. After a depraved youth, he became Regent in 1810 when his father's insanity was too severe. He had married Caroline of Brunswick (1768-1821). Their only daughter Charlotte (1796-1817) married Leopold of Saxe-Coburg, the future King of the Belgians. His brothers Guillaume IV and Ernest-Auguste were respectively King of England and King of Hanover. His niece Victoria became queen. Georges IV was an ultra-conservative, sworn enemy of Napoleon and traitor to the word given to the Emperor, whom he allowed to be deported to the island of Saint Helena. He relied on Wellington to govern.
