D’après l’ouvrage, “La médaille Française et l'histoire de la guerre de 1870-1871”, de COLLIGNON Jean-Pierre, il est cité un passage dans le Mémorial du premier siège de Paris par Loredan Larchey, Paris 1872, p. 191 : “Un spéculateur fait frapper une médaille commémorative du siège de Paris, à laquelle il a donné le nom de JETON DE PRÉSENCE. Les réclames des journaux annoncent que l’idée et les médailles ont le plus grand succès. Chacun de ceux qui y ont droit veut ou voudra avoir, parmi ses bibelots les plus chers, “son jeton de présence” en bronze ou en argent, et qui doit naturellement porter le nom de son possesseur”.
Il semblerait également que ce type de jeton était réservé à toute personne restée à Paris pendant le siège.

Newspaper advertisements announce that the idea and the medals are having great success. Everyone who is entitled to them wants or will want to have, among their most expensive trinkets, “their presence token” in bronze or silver, and which must naturally bear the name of its owner.” It would also seem that this type of token was reserved for anyone who remained in Paris during the siege.
