Exemplaire sur un flan large et bien centré des deux côtés. Portrait de style tout à fait exceptionnel avec un cou massif. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Génie de style fin et élancé. Jolie patine marron

Комментарий
Rubans divergents : ruban antérieur descendant sur le cou et ruban postérieur descendant verticalement (type 2). D’un point de vue stylistique, le portrait de notre follis est très proche des exemplaires Bastien 45a et b, pl. VI avec IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P AVG et Bastien n° 60b, pl. VII avec la même légende pour la deuxième officine. Nous n’avons pas relevé de liaison de coin pertinente. C’est le septième exemplaire recensé avec ce type de césure. Prendra le numéro 43c dans le Supplément III du Bastien.
Divergent ribbons: anterior ribbon descending on the neck and posterior ribbon descending vertically (type 2). From a stylistic point of view, the portrait in our follis is very close to the examples Bastien 45a and b, pl. VI with IMP C DIOCLETIANVS P AVG and Bastien n° 60b, pl. VII with the same legend for the second officina. We have not noted any relevant corner link. This is the seventh example recorded with this type of caesura. Will take the number 43c in Supplement III of Bastien

Augustus
Diocletian, born in 245 in Dalmatia (Split), is an Illyrian emperor. After having eliminated Aper, prefect of the praetorium, also father-in-law and assassin of Numérien, he put on the purple on November 20, 284. Fighting first against Carin, last son of Carus, he was beaten at Margus the following year. But Carin is assassinated and Diocletian alone remains august. He raised Maximian, a compatriot, to the rank of Caesar in November 285, then Augustus on April 1, 286. Diocletian had just created a new political regime, the dyarchy. Two emperors shared military and political power there, but Maximian remained subordinate to Diocletian. Diocletian places himself under the Jovian protection (of Jupiter) while Maximian is of Herculean essence (of Hercules). Diocletian spent the first ten years of his reign fighting in the East, while Maximian remained in the West. Diocletian is the first emperor of the Lower Empire, according to the expression of Gibbons, and the founder of the dominion.
