John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963) est le 35e président des États-Unis du 20 janvier 1961 au 22 novembre 1963. Il est le ils de Joseph Kennedy, soutien de Franklin Delano Roosevelt et ancien président de la SEC, patriarche de ce qu’on appelera le “Clan Kennedy”. John F. Kennedy participe à la guerre. En 1946, il est élu réprésentant du Massachusetts pour le Parti Démocrate. Il devient sénateur en 1953. En 1960, il obtient l’investiture démocrate et bat le républicain Richard Nixon. Il est le premier président de religion catholique.
Sur le plan international, il est très vite confronté aux tensions avec le bloc soviétique lors de la crise cubaine des missiles. Au Vietnam, il envoie un grand nombre de conseiller militaire pour soutenir le régime sud-vietnamien anti-communiste.
Sur le plan intérieur, il lutte contre la ségrégation raciale dans les états du sud. Il lance aussi le programme spatial Apollo dont l’objectif est d’envoyer des hommes sur la lune.
Il est assassiné le 22 novembre 1963 lors d’une visite à Dallas. Son vice-président, Lyndon B. Johnson le remplace.
