D’après l’ouvrage de Hennin, “Aucune médaille ne fut frappée en France relativement à Louis XVI. Le gouvernement du temps n’en ordonna pas et personne ne conçut l’idée de consacrer par des médailles approbatives la mémoire de cet événement. Il faut cependant en excepter cette médaille qu’on peu au reste regarder comme un monument inoffensif et qui par son extrême rareté doit être considérée plutôt comme un essai que comme une médaille publiée réellement.
La médaille décrite fut frappée hors de France et avec les suivantes (dans l’ouvrage de Hennin (465-489)) fort répandues.
Le graveur Philippe (?) était employé chez Mathieu Bolton, propriétaire d’un établissement magnifique à Soho, près de Birmingham”.
According to Hennin's work, \\\"No medal was struck in France in relation to Louis XVI. The government of the time did not order one and no one conceived the idea of dedicating the memory of this event with approving medals. However, this medal must be excepted, which can otherwise be regarded as a harmless monument and which, due to its extreme rarity, should be considered more as an attempt than as a truly published medal. The medal described was struck outside France and, along with the following ones (in Hennin's work (465-489)), was very widespread.
