Les hémistatères aux types de Philippe sont rares. Plusieurs monnaies de ce type figurent dans le Nouvel Atlas ; DT. 3005 du “type de Montmorot”, DT. 3019 du “type au Xi”, DT. 30 et S30A de la série dite “à la fleur” ; la distinction de ces différents types peut parfois paraître un peu subjective (?).
Le style et la composition de notre monnaie semblent permettre de la rapprocher des n° 105-106 de J. Sills ; la légende du revers est caractéristique avec le Xi de FILIPPOY.
J. Sills ne recense que les deux exemplaires de la BN, repris dans toutes les publications. Notre exemplaire serait donc le troisième connu et le seul en mains privées. C’est aussi le plus lourd (les deux autre pesant 4,14 et 4,02 grammes). Avec ce poids très élevé, cet hémistatère correspondrait à un statère de 8,32 grammes, ce qui correspond aux premières imitations de Philippe datées du milieu du IIIe siècle.

Several coins of this type appear in the New Atlas; DT. 3005 of the “Montmorot type”, DT. 3019 of the “Xi type”, DT. 30 and S30A of the so-called “flower” series; the distinction between these different types can sometimes seem a little subjective (?). The style and composition of our coin seem to allow it to be compared to J. Sills’ nos. 105-106; the legend on the reverse is characteristic of FILIPPOY’s Xi. J. Sills only lists the two examples from the BN, included in all publications. Our example would therefore be the third known and the only one in private hands. It is also the heaviest (the other two weigh 4.14 and 4.02 grams). With this very high weight, this hemistater would correspond to a stater of 8.32 grams, which corresponds to the first imitations of Philip dated from the middle of the 3rd century
