George Canning est un homme d'État britannique, né à Londres, le 11 avril 1770, mort le 8 août 1827, d'une pneumonie.
Élevé à Londres par un oncle négociant en vins, les dépenses de son éducation sont couvertes par le revenu d'une petite propriété en Irlande. Il va d'abord à l'école de Hyde-Abbey, près de Winchester, puis à Eton, puis en 1788 à Oxford. Il publia, dès l'âge de 16 ans, le Microcosme, journal littéraire plein de goût et de fine raillerie, entra en 1793 à la Chambre des communes, où il se fit bientôt remarquer par son éloquence ; devint le séide aveugle du Premier ministre William Pitt le Jeune, qui le fit nommer sous-secrétaire d'État en 1796..
Medal signed GALLE F. George Canning was a British statesman, born in London on April 11, 1770, and died on August 8, 1827, of pneumonia. Raised in London by a wine merchant uncle, his education was covered by the income from a small property in Ireland. He first attended Hyde Abbey School, near Winchester, then Eton, and then in 1788 Oxford. At the age of 16, he published the Microcosm, a literary journal full of taste and subtle mockery. He entered the House of Commons in 1793, where he soon made a name for himself with his eloquence. He became the blind henchman of Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger, who had him appointed Under-Secretary of State in 1796.
