La tranche est inscrite d’une phrase latine se traduisant par : “à l’ami de mon père, Matthew Robinson Boulton, 1819”.
La médaille présente un double placage d’or, elle est conservée dans sa boîte de cuivre doré d’origine. Cette dernière était réservée aux membres de la famille Boulton et Watt.
Des exemplaires de cette médaille étaient offerts aux amis dans une boite de cuivre argenté, d’autres étaient donnés sans boîte ni tranche inscrite au public.
Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) travailla à la “Soho Mint” qui devint plus tard “The Mint, Birmingham, Ltd.”. Matthew Boulton est particulièrement connu pour s’être associé avec James Watt (connu pour ses améliorations sur la machine à vapeur). Une partie de son travail est mentionné dans l’ouvrage de Forrer, Biographical Dictionary of Medallists, pp.235-237.
The edge is inscribed with a Latin phrase that translates as: “To my father’s friend, Matthew Robinson Boulton, 1819.” The medal is double-plated in gold and is kept in its original gilt copper case. This case was reserved for members of the Boulton and Watt families. Some examples of this medal were given to friends in a silver-plated copper case, while others were given to the public without a case or inscribed edge. (25/10/1760-29/01/1820)
Georges III (4/06/1738-29/01/1820) is the grandson of Georges II, whom he succeeded in 1760, and the son of Frédéric-Louis (1707-1751), Prince of Wales and Augusta of Saxony-Gotha. He married Charlotte, daughter of Charles Louis Frédéric of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, on September 8, 1761 and was crowned on the 22nd. Suffering from increasingly pronounced fits of dementia, his son Georges IV had to assume the regency from 1810. Georges III is the first truly English King of the Hanoverian dynasty. He won the Seven Years' War (1756-1763, Treaty of Paris). He lost the colonies in North America (1775-1783, Treaty of Versailles 1783). He fights against the revolution and is the enemy of Napoleon I. Crazy, he died in 1820 two years after Charlotte.
