The Anglo-Irish Treaty was signed on December 6, 1921 between the British government and Irish nationalists and ended the Irish War of Independence which lasted from January 1919 to July 1921. Ireland became the Irish Free State, dominion of the British Crown. The oath of allegiance to the Crown is refused by the Republicans and leads to the Irish Civil War (1921-1923).
