Le sequin ou zecchino d'orofut frappé pour la première fois par Jean Dandolo en 1284 à la Zecca. La Zecca est la tour qui se trouve sur la place Saint-Marc en face du Palais des Doges, que l'on peut voir encore aujourd'hui et où les monnaiesétaient fabriquées.
