Ce jeton rappelle le mariage en 1559 de Charles III surnommé le Grand Duc, avec Claude de France. La fille de Henri II apporte en dot Stenay et 300.000 écus d'or au Duc de Lorraine.
Claude de France, née à Fontainebleau le 12 novembre 1547, morte à Nancy le 21 février 1575, est la deuxième fille d'Henri II et de Catherine de Médicis.
Élevée aux côtés d'Élisabeth de France et de Marie Stuart, elle épouse en 1559 Charles III, duc de Lorraine et de Bar. Cette princesse fort discrète est la fille préférée de Catherine de Médicis. Elle quitte fréquemment Nancy, la capitale de Lorraine pour vivre au coté de sa mère à la cour de France. Elle porte le prénom de sa grand-mère paternelle Claude de France.
Mariée à 12 ans, morte (en couches) à 27 ans, Claude de France mit au monde neuf enfants.
