MACEDONIA - MACEDONIAN KINGDOM

Between Alexander I and Philip II, Macedonia experienced significant territorial expansion. It had to win against its Thracian and Greek neighbors. Pella replaced Aegae as the capital. The Macedonian monarchs, often philhellenes were often the arbiters in the fights which opposed the Greeks to the Persians, then the Greeks between them. Finally Philip II ends up imposing his hegemony on the Greeks after the battle of Chaeronea.
