Les Établissements des Détroits faisaient partie de la colonie de Malaisie, administrée jusqu'en 1853 par la Compagnie des Indes Orientales (EIC). Le territoire passa sous contrôle de l'Inde Anglaise de 1858 à 1867 avant de devenir colonie de la Couronne cette année là. La fabrication de la pièce de 20 cents débuta en 1871 pour se terminer avec la mort de la souveraine. Le dollar malais est divisé en 100 cents.
The Straits Settlements were part of the colony of Malaya, administered until 1853 by the East India Company (EIC). The territory was under British control from 1858 to 1867 before becoming a Crown Colony that year. The production of the 20-cent coin began in 1871 and ended with the death of the sovereign. The Malayan dollar is divided into 100 cents.
