Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type de monnayage sur un petit flan bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis complets. Portrait fantastique où tous les détails de la chevelure sont visibles. Revers de style fin. Jolie patine de médaillier gris foncé avec des reflets mordorés

MAURETANIA - MAURETANIAN KINGDOM - JUBA I
(60-46 BC)
Juba I succeeded his father Hiempsal II in 60 BC Renowned for his arrogance and cruelty, he was noticed by Cicero and then quickly became Caesar's enemy. In the civil war between Pompey and Caesar, he sided with the former. Beaten at Thapsus in 46 BC, he fled, then was killed or committed suicide. His kingdom was conquered and did not become independent again until more than twenty years later with his son, Juba II.
