Maxence prit possession de l'Afrique en novembre 306, grâce à l'intervention de son père, Maximien Hercule. Sa politique fut désastreuse. Il finit par fermer l'atelier de Carthage à l'automne 307. Alexandre se révolta contre Maxence à partir de 308. Il se pourrait que l'atelier soit resté fermé pendant une année. Il semble bien que cette dernière émission avant la fermeture soit frappée au 1/48e de livre (6,765 g) plutôt qu'au 1/40e de livre (8,118 g).
Maxentius took possession of Africa in November 306, thanks to the intervention of his father, Maximian Hercules. His policy was disastrous. He ended up closing the Carthage mint in the autumn of 307. Alexander rebelled against Maxentius from 308. It is possible that the mint remained closed for a year. It seems that this last issue before the closure was struck at 1/48th of a pound (6.765 g) rather than 1/40th of a pound (8.118 g).
