The Parisii were a small but powerful people whose oppidum was Lutèce. Related to the Sénons, the Parisii and the city would have emancipated themselves from their tutelage, relatively late, after the Arverne defeat of 121 BC. The wealth of the Parisii rested on the river control of the Seine and the confluences with the Marne, Bièvre, Ourcq and Oise. César chooses Lutèce, in 53 before J. - C. to convene the assembly of the Gallic peoples. The Parisii were among the first to answer the call of Vercingetorix, the following year, in 52 BC, and they provided a contingent of eight thousand men for the relief army.
