Superbe drachme frappée sur un flan relativement large, avec de légères irrégularités. Droit complet et de frappe vigoureuse. Revers aussi complet, mais de frappe moins vigoureuse. Agréable patine grise et homogène, très légèrement cristallisée

Комментарий

Selon la RN 1996, ce type au cavalier et au bouclier appartient à la série PIII, avec une tête aquitanique sans collier au droit et motif sous le cheval. Mais cet exemplaire serait plutôt de la série PIII B, qui correspondrait au n° 5 pl. I, alors que la série PIII B serait illustré plI, n° 19 (sic). Le fleuron est semblable au motif 10, page 13 de cette même RN.
Ce type de drachme est très rare ; le Numéraire celtique recense pourtant pas moins de 40 drachmes (sans distinction de coiffure) dont 3 à Bourges, 12 à la BN et 7 à Nantes. Le Nouvel Atlas défend fort justement le travail de D. Nash sur ces séries ; cette drachme est une variante de la classe III “à la tête aquitanique et au fleuron”.
L'attribution proposée dans le Nouvel Atlas est aux Bituriges, de même que les drachmes dites "au cavalier ailé des Pictons". Si l'attribution aux Pictons n'est pas totalement satisfaisante pour ces drachmes "au cavalier et bouclier", tout attribuer aux Bituriges nous semble assez arbitraire….
According to the RN 1996, this type with rider and shield belongs to the PIII series, with an Aquitanic head without collar on the right and motif under the horse.
