Denier frappé sur un flan un peu court et irrégulier. Avers centré avec un beau portrait mais revers décentré avec une faiblesse de frappe. Patine sombre et légèrement granuleuse

Avec la légende (...)AVIS CIVIT, il est logique de restituer PECTAVIS, pour Poitiers. D’autant que ce monétaire n’est connu que par des monnaies de Poitiers, même si G. Depeyrot classe certains de ses deniers pauvres en épigraphie à Orléans (?).

POITIERS - PECTAVIS - CIVITAS PECTAVORUM
(late 7th - early 8th century)
Many denarii from Poitiers have a radiated head, as in Orleans. These denarii were struck at the end of the 7th and the beginning of the 8th century, since they are found in the treasury of Plassac (Gironde) hidden around 710-730. The Merovingian coinage of the Poitevine region is quite diversified, with triens and a wide variety of denarii. The proximity of the silver mines of Melle is certainly no coincidence.
