Cette pièce de 10 crusades est frappée sur un flan large et légèrement irrégulier. Exemplaire présentant à 11 heures au droit, sur la tranche, une légère trace d’essai. Exemplaire présentant des traces normales de circulation : petits chocs dans le champ du revers

Exemplaire frappé avec le même coin de revers que l’exemplaire n° 28 de la prestigieuse vente Union des Banques Suisses, 50, Bâle, 30 janvier 2001. Type monétaire de la plus grande rareté figurant seulement dans les plus grandes collections numismatiques. La croix du revers est la croix de l’Ordre du Christ, ordre régulier, qui fut transformé en ordre séculier sous Manuel Ier. C’est en 1497, sous Manuel Ier que Vasco de Gama, membre de l’Ordre du Christ, dépasse le Cap de Bonne-Espérance. En 1500, Pedro Alvares Cabral est nommé commandant d’une seconde flotte. Le 22 avril 1500,le journal de bord signale : “Terre avec grande arborisation : un mont”, ils accostent sur les côtes du futur Brésil (Vera Cruz, actuellement Porto Seguro, dans l’État de Bahia). Selon la tradition portugaise, cette flotte plante des “padrões”, de manière à marquer leur nouvelle conquête. Le premier nom de cette colonie fut “terre de la véritable croix” (terra de Vera Cruz).
