Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan parfaitement centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Magnifique buste de Probus. Joli revers bien venu à la frappe. Belle patine gris métallique avec des reflets dorés. Conserve l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Poids lourd Avec l’intégralité de son argenture superficielle. Portrait très particulier, avec l’égide ornée d’une petite tête de Méduse posée sur la cuirasse lisse, vu à mi corps, héroïque. Ptéryges larges. Ce dernier est posé sur la cuirasse lisse (lorica, chalcochiton) ou cuirasse ornée des empereurs ou des généraux. Avec ce type de buste et cette légende, S. Estiot a recensé seulement trois exemplaires.
Heavyweight With all its surface silvering. Very unusual portrait, with the aegis decorated with a small head of Medusa placed on the smooth breastplate, seen from the mid-body, heroic. Large pteryges. The latter is placed on the smooth breastplate (lorica, chalcochiton) or decorated breastplate of emperors or generals. With this type of bust and this legend, S. Estiot has identified only three examples

PROBUS

Probus was born on August 19, 232 in Sirmium. He led a brilliant military career during the reigns between Valerian I and Tacitus. Commander of the army of the East on the death of Tacitus, he was immediately proclaimed emperor and easily triumphed over Florian, who was assassinated. The situation is serious. The Rhine-Danubian limes gave way under the pressure of the Germanic invasions. Probus restores peace in Gaul, in Germania then in Rhaetia where he inflicts a severe defeat on the Germanic peoples, in Thrace where he crushes the Sarmatians and the Scythians, in Asia Minor which he cleans of looters and Pamphylian pirates, finally in Africa where he ends the incursions of the Blemmyes. In 280, he signed peace with Vahram II, Sassanid monarch. He must face the usurpations of Saturnin, Bonose and Proculus. Probus, having triumphed over all his adversaries, returned to Rome in 281 and celebrated his victories. Before preparing a new expedition against the Sassanids, he fell under the blows of his own soldiers at Sirmium in 282.
