SICILY - SICULO-PUNIC - ENTELLA

(4th century BC)

City in western Sicily near the rock of Entella, near the territory of Elimi. The city is said to have been founded by the eponymous hero Entello. Timoleon seized the city three years later but had to finally return it in 338 under a treaty with the Carthaginians which determined a line of demarcation from Halykos . Finally, at the end of the Punic Wars, Entella became a tributary of the Romans. The city still played a role during the Civil Wars which opposed Sextus Pompey on one side, Marc Antoine and Octave on the other..
