The turcies are dikes built along the Loire and some of its tributaries to protect against flash floods and to serve as roads along the rivers. This was one of the main expenses of the Bridges and Roads Department. Two engineers, in Moulins and Orléans, were in charge of the turcies. Thomas Bedacier was treasurer of the turcies and levies. He was mayor from 1624 to 1626 and wore azure, with a gold ostrich placed on a silver scythe and holding a silver snake in its beak.
