Médaille décernée à Denis Poulot (Châlons 1847) (1832-1905)
Denis Poulot, né le 3 mars 1832 à Gray et mort le 28 mars 1905 à Paris, est un entrepreneur, philanthrope et essayiste français.
Entré à l'École des Arts et Métiers de Châlons en 1847, il devient contremaître en 1852 dans les ateliers d'Ernest Goüin et Cie, puis entrepreneur. Le Square Denis-Poulot à Paris a été nommé d'après lui. Son livre, Le sublime, traitant des ouvriers très qualifiés généralement indépendants, inspirera à Émile Zola L'Assommoir. Il fut maire du 11e arrondissement de Paris de 1879 à 1882.
Alfred Borrel, né à Paris le 18 août 1836 et mort en 1927, est un sculpteur, graveur et médailleur français. Il est le fils du médailleur Maurice Borrel. Alfred Borrel fait ses études au Lycée Saint-Louis, puis entre à l'école des Beaux-Arts de Paris dans l'atelier de Jouffroy en 1855. Il est également l'élève de son père Maurice Borrel et de Louis Merley.
Il est membre de la Société des artistes français.
En 1860, il obtient le second prix de gravure en médaille et pierres fines sur le sujet : "Un guerrier triomphant dépose une palme sur l'autel du dieu Mars".
On lui décerne une médaille de troisième classe en 1880, de première classe en 1896, et d'argent à l'Exposition universelle de 1900.
Borrel est fait chevalier de Saint-Maurice en 1864, et reçoit les palmes d'officier d'académie en 1881.
Il est décoré de l'ordre de chevalier de la Légion d'honneur en 1906...

The news of the capitulation of Sedan provokes the revolution of September 4, 1870 in Paris. Proclaimed at the Hôtel de Ville, the Republic is endowed with a provisional government called the Government of National Defense. Threatened on the left by the insurrection of the Commune and on the right by the monarchists, the new regime had a difficult start.. Initially head of the executive power (February 1871), Thiers was responsible for reorganizing the country before choosing its form of government..
