Médaille décernée au Général Gaultier.
Il s’agit ici du général Louis-Antoine Gaultier (1898-1970) commençant l’armée par une mobilisation en 1917, affecté au 4e régiment de zouaves où il sera successivement caporal, sergent, puis aspirant. Il sera nommé sous-lieutenant en 1919 au 1er Régiment étranger (Légion étrangère) où il fera quasiment toute sa carrière. En 1945, il sera promu au grade de colonel au 21e Régiment d'Infanterie avant de quitter la Légion en 1950 et d’être nommé adjoint au général.
L’avers de cette médaille reprend un tableau de Jean-Baptiste-Edouard Detaille réalisé en 1886.
Medal awarded to General Gaultier. This is General Louis-Antoine Gaultier (1898-1970) who began his military service with a mobilization in 1917 and was assigned to the 4th Zouave Regiment, where he was successively corporal, sergeant, and then cadet. He was appointed second lieutenant in 1919 in the 1st Foreign Regiment (Foreign Legion), where he spent almost his entire career. In 1945, he was promoted to the rank of colonel in the 21st Infantry Regiment before leaving the Legion in 1950 and being appointed deputy to the general. The obverse of this medal features a painting by Jean-Baptiste-Edouard Detaille, painted in 1886.
